Founder & Managing Director: Mathew D. Woodlee
During Mathew's extensive career in government and private consulting, he has directly advised hundreds of company executives and trained thousands of individuals from the private and public sectors on global trade issues, market-entry methodology and export controls compliance. He has developed global sector strategies that span the emerging technology landscape in aerospace, defense, security, advanced manufacturing, energy, digital products and professional services, in addition to advising micro-business in the consumer and sporting goods sectors.
Woodlee's expertise is as technical as it is strategic. Fluent in the rules and mechanics of international trade and technology commercialization yet equally knowledgeable about the steps to long-term, strategic growth of businesses operating in a global market. He provides worldclass consulting and execution of global expansion strategies, utilizing a vast network and knowledge depth that is unmatched and has resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars of client global sales.
His demonstrated expertise of critical federal technology controls and regulations such as International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Federal Trade Regulations (FTR), and Office of Foreign Assets Controls (OFAC) brings a vital perspective to any technology organization operating in today's global business environment.
Mathew grew up between borders, cultures, and continents, shaped by the rhythm of a U.S. Air Force family life and the values of service, resilience, and global awareness. Those early experiences gave him a rare lens on the world. One that has guided his work at the crossroads of business and government.
Beyond the professional milestones, he is grounded in what matters most. With roots in the Southwest, he currently lives in the great state of Minnesota with his wife and son, drawing daily inspiration from family and the thriving business and commercialization community in and around the Twin Cities. He’s an avid skateboarder (yes, still...sometimes), a fierce rugby and basketball fan (Go Wolves and Lynx!), and a voracious reader of history and historical fiction - forever curious about how people, places and decisions have shaped the world.
Clients choose Mathew not just for his technical expertise, but for his authenticity, humor, and heart. He listens with intention, acts with purpose, and believes that trust is built through showing up prepared, humble, and ready to work.
MDW Trade & Tech Advisors is the embodiment of that approach: globally fluent, locally grounded, and relentlessly focused on helping people and organizations thrive at the intersection of policy, technology and global markets.
